API tubing, or American Petroleum Institute tubing, is a standard for steel pipes used in the petroleum and natural gas industries to transport oil, water, and gas. The API 5CT standard covers seamless and welded casing and tubing pipes for oil and gas transportation. API 5B3 and API RP 5B14 cover threading, gauging, and thread inspection, and couplings should meet the minimum requirements outlined in API Spec. 5CT.

API tubing is available in different grades, including H-40, J-55, K-55, N-80, L-80, C-90, T-95, P-110, and Q-125. The letters in the grade refer to the steel grade, and the number refers to the minimum yield strength. For example, L80 casing has a higher tensile strength and better mechanical properties, making it suitable for more demanding downhole conditions. N80 casing is a good balance of strength and cost-effectiveness for less extreme well environments.
